Orlando magazine is gearing up to present its eighth annual Paint the Town Art Show, which will feature original works of art embodying The City Beautiful from March 18 through April 9, 2010.  In addition to having artwork published in the March 2010 issue of Orlandomagazine, selected artists will have the opportunity to showcase pieces at downtown Orlando’s Gallery at Avalon Island.

Each year, hundreds of artists submit works to the Paint the Town Art Show that they perceive best represent Orlando and its environs—including abstract interpretations, cityscapes and landscapes.  From paintings, drawings and sculptures to photography, mixed media and beyond, entrants are encouraged to make use of their preferred techniques in order to best capture O-town.  Individual artists are permitted to submit as many as five completed works of art for consideration.

The host site for this year’s Paint the Town Art Show, Gallery at Avalon Island, is located at 37/39 South Magnolia Avenue in the historic Rogers Building.  Constructed in 1886, the Rogers Building is the oldest commercial building in Orlando.  Reflecting the Queen Anne style of architecture, the structure features an ornate evergreen exterior uniquely clad in zinc panels.  From the late 1800s through the mid-1900s, the building housed two English men’s clubs as well as the acclaimed Arthur Murray Dance Studio.  With such a colorful past and exterior, the historic landmark provides the perfect setting for the art exhibition.

Founded in 1946, Orlando magazine reflects the lifestyle and interests of an upscale, educated readership. And as “The City’s Magazine,” we’ve grown and changed alongside The City Beautiful. Recently Orlando magazine underwent a re-launch, with exciting new departments and eye-catching, contemporary design. Yet the magazine’s mission remains unchanged: to offer readers compelling local content that is both entertaining and informative, and to provide information that will drive decision making. News, the arts, dining, travel, entertainment, style, people and trends—if it’s part of Orlando’s lifestyle, you’ll find it covered in Orlando magazine.

Gallery at Avalon Island is located at 39 S. Magnolia Ave., in downtown Orlando at the corner of Magnolia and Pine. Convenient parking is available in the library parking garage, adjacent to our gallery. Hours of operation are Thursday through Saturday from 11 am – 4 pm and by appointment.
