JOCELYNE AND MIKE SHINER ANNOUNCE THEIR UPCOMING SCULPTURE SHOW
AT THE GALLERY AT AVALON ISLAND
Knoxville artists Jocelyne and Mike Shiner announce their upcoming sculpture show at the Gallery at Avalon Island, in downtown Orlando. Husband and wife, Mike and Jocelyne work both individually and collaboratively on their artwork. Found wood, either drift or discarded, is the medium of choice. The wood brings with it a story and history, guiding the artists on subject and style. The sculpture show, featuring current works, runs April 17 - May 8, 2008. The opening reception is Thursday, April 17th, and coincides with the Orlando art district’s Third Thursdays Gallery Walk. Complimentary beer wine and hors devours will be served, musical entertainment will be provided and the event is free to the public.
Jocelyne and Mike are inspired by the grandeur of the surrounding Appalachian mountains, the woods and, most particularly, the native trees. The story that lies within the wood, the growth and decay that are evident, are elements that fire the passion in the artists as they release the pent up emotions and figures hidden beneath the bark. Each artwork embraces human tragedy and triumph... despair and joy. It is a journey that Jocelyne and Mike invite you to join.
